Mother's Day!

Sunday 30 March 2014

Happy Mother's Day to all you lovely mummy's out there. I adore my mum, she's a pretty awesome lady, but she gets enough presents on her birthday and at Christmas...and they're difficult enough to shop for. So we decided to buy the generic flowers and some macarons and then take her for afternoon tea instead.

Bea's of Bloomsbury is a cute little cafe type tea room near St Paul's Cathedral. The standard afternoon tea is £19 per person and consists of some savoury filled brioche buns, a cupcake, a scone and a mix of mini sweet treats (brownies, meringues and marshmallows). We had pulled pork and cheese with pepper brioche buns and raspberry, nutella, and praline cupcakes, although they vary day to day and the table next to us had a different selection of cakes.

The food was very good, the brioche buns and the scones were especially good. I will definitely be attempting to make little brioche rolls at home. The mini brownie bites were yummy, and a good follow on from the buns, but they snuck peanut butter in the walnut brownies which made me sad :(.
If you follow me on Twitter and Instagram you will know I love to bake, and although the frosting was delicious and creamy, I can't say I was very impressed with the actual cupcake. It was a bit nothing-y.

It's a shame, as they are in a great location and are a very reasonable price for London. A few little differences could make this good place a great place. The service especially needs a change, grubby cups and having to wait 10/15 minutes to be asked about tea isn't ideal, especially when your food is already out waiting. I would definitely go back for cream tea, or perhaps lunch, but I wouldn't re-visit for the afternoon tea as is.

Speaking of cupcakes - I made some for my mummy last night, I will put up a more detailed post/recipe later this week so keep an eye out for that.

I hope all the mummy's have been thoroughly spoilt today, and I hope you all had a great weekend.

Girls night in

Monday 24 March 2014

On Saturday I was in need of some light hearted gossip and guilty snacks with my friends. I had a little browse on pinterest for inspiration and came across some seriously yummy looking fondues. I was sold, before I knew it I was off to Sainsburys in hunt of some crazy calorific treats. As I'm sure you all know, tasty food is always key for a successful night in.
Also, how cute are the tubs and bottles?! I am obsessed with the cutesy picnic type look and these mini bottles are too cute- not the most practical but still. I <3 the idea. Bottles full of appletiser and tubs full of treats, we were set to chat away for hours, and that we did. I have to admit, I went a little overboard with the food, there were only 3 of us haha! But it certainly didn't go to waste.
A long lay in didn't go a miss this morning and when I eventually dragged myself from the realms of semi consciousness I made the above. It was a perfect Sunday morning breakfast!

Sunny smiles

Wednesday 19 March 2014

Jeans: Primark

Top: Matalan

Shoes: Matalan

Ring: Asos

Watch: Fossil

Sunnies: Wallis

The sun has finally come out from hibernation, and we can all start to head out without our scarves and coats. Phew. As you may have noticed, I am pretty pale so I am not particularly eager to get my legs out as soon as the sun shines. I am however, a big fan of rolled up jeans and pretty shoes. I picked these sweet little nude ankle strap flats from Matalan last week and I love that they can add a little extra to an otherwise plain outfit. Paired simply with my chunky watch and fox head ring, this will very quickly be a starting point for a lot of my spring outfits.

Spring wishlist: little things

Monday 10 March 2014

How lush has the weather been this weekend? I know 17 degrees isn't actually really that hot but after a few months of temperatures not going higher than 6 degrees, it has felt crazy warm! It's made me want to buy anything and everything I see that's pastel coloured. So to suppress the urge to go shopping - again, I have made a little spring wishlist.
1. River Island Colour Block Bag - I adore River Island bags, I always think they are well made and they are always big bags which is perfect for me. I love pinks and oranges together, so cute.
2. Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie - I'm all for bright colour lipsticks but I realised yesterday that I don't yet have a good nude, i'm hoping this lip butter might be my saviour.
3. Topshop Nail Varnish in Unicorn - Last week I dipped my toe into the pool of Topshop make up and bought a lipstick in the shade 'Macaron' which I am in love with and also a green sparkly nail varnish that was a pound in the sale. It was an error to let myself buy them because now I want more and I love sparkly nail varnishes. I think this one is beaut.
4. Yankee Candle in Summer Scoop - I recently nipped up to my local Yankee store to find a new candle, but ended up with an old favourite 'fluffy towels'. However, whilst I was there I had a quick sniff of the new Spring smells and fell head over heels for 'Summr Scoop'. It's fruity and fresh and it will definitely be my next candle purchase.
5. New Look Coral Crochet Ballet Pumps - Bows, laser cut crochet effect and a gorgeous coral colour- what more could I ask for?
Are you guys excited for spring/summer? What's your favourite colour to wear?

Pancake day

Tuesday 4 March 2014

Pancake day is for sure one of my favourite days of the year. I eat scotch pancakes every other week but I generally save the crêpes for today. Here are my top 4 toppings. Just for you guys ;)
Nutella and banana
Lemon and sugar
Banana and maple syrup

Nutella and strawberries

I hope you all feel twice the size you did at the start of the day!
